Yamaha to launch a 250cc motorcycle in 2014
After years of rabid speculation, India Yamaha Motor have finally confirmed that they’re planning to launch a 250cc motorcycle in the Indian market in 2014.
In an interview with Financial Chronicle, Hiroyuki Suzuki, CEO, India Yamaha Motor said, “We will focus on the scooters category for next two years, but in 2014 we will launch powerful sporty 250cc bike in the Indian market. There is a good market for this premium segment which we would like to tap.”
India has become an important market for Yamaha with the company also now focusing attention to the scooter segment. Yamaha will not introduce any new motorcycles for the next two years, but will keep updating their existing models. The Japanese marquee will also launch a scooter series for different target segments in the country. Mr. Suzuki also added,“The motorcycles manufactured in India meet the advanced specification of developed markets and they are produced at a lower cost. The price is almost double in Japanese market. We are sending R15 to Japan to test market, and if the response is good, we may explore more products for export to Japan and other advanced markets.”
At present the 250cc category has seen a duopoly of the Honda CBR 250R and the Kawasaki Ninja 250 in the Indian market. But with the growing importance of performance biking in the country, players like Hero MotoCorp – ERB tie-up, Bajaj and TVS-BMW technical partnership, manufacturers are taking a long hard look at the 250s in the country, and the future surely sees a lot many new players in this exciting segment.
Update: Bike India’s Art Director, Ramnath Chodankar, has created a rendering of how the forthcoming YZF-R25 might look like. For the complete breakdown of the motorcycle’s design, pick up the December 2012 issue of Bike India.

All-Star Honda Isle of Man TT Legands team unveiled
Honda Motor Europe recently reavealed their All-Star TT Legends team who will be taking part in the upcoming 2013 Isle of Man TT race.
Spearheading the team will be none other than 19 time TT winner John McGuinness along with Michael Dunlop and Michael Rutter. Between them this three member All-Star team have won an insane 24 TT race victories. The Honda All Star team was unveiled at the ‘Motorcycle Live’ event on Sunday as McGuinness, Rutter and Dunlop took center stage along with TT commentator James Whitham.
The cherry on the cake has to be the fact that this All-Star team will also take part in the North West 200 event as well. Australian rider Cameron Donald and 2011 TT newcomer Simon Andrews will join the TT Legends team for the four-round Endurance World Championship. McGuinness and Rutter will also be completing in the four-man EWC rider line-up.
Speaking at the event, All-Star team manager Neil Tuxworth said, “We’re very pleased to have a really strong team both for World Endurance and the road races this year. Looking at the road racing, we’ve haven’t run a three-man squad for a number of years now. It’s quite significant that not only are we running three riders but we are bringing Michael Dunlop in as one of those three. He’s a young rider that already has three TT wins under his belt and we feel that he is the future of road racing. With Dunlop, McGuinness and Rutter – who of course have both been very successful on the roads – we have a very strong line-up for 2013.”
With such a phenomenal line-up this dream team is surely the one to watch out for at the 2013 Isle of Man and the 2013 North West 200 events.

James Toseland eyeing 400 mph
Double world superbike champion James Toseland is looking to set a new world motorcycle land speed record.
The British racer is eyeing to achieve a mind boggling speed of least 400 mph (643 Kmph), a huge leap from the current FIM record which stands at 376.363 mph (605.69 Kmph), held by American rider ‘Rocky’ Robson.
Speaking to the media Toseland said, “I am hugely excited about this record attempt but I’m under no illusions as to how difficult it will be. I’ve been racing motorcycles for most of my life but this means learning a completely new technique in order to pilot the motorcycle streamliner. If successful, this will be a fantastic personal achievement but also a great accolade to bring back to the UK.”
The British superbiker is a former two-time WSBK champion and is backed by an all-Brit team for this record attempt. The team is led by former GP and TT sidecar racer Alex Macfazden who has previously held the British bike land speed record, and the first UK record over 200 mph (323 Kmph). This record attempt has been sheduled to take place at the ‘mecca’ of land speed records, the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, USA, in September 2014. We wish Mr.Toseland all the very best in his attempt to reach the 400 mph mark.
