KTM RC 200, RC 390 Launch Next Month

August 23, 2014 by Jim Gorde Leave a Comment

KTM RC

KTM India will launch the RC series on September 9.

Marketed under the brand’s ‘Supersport’ category, the RC 200 and RC 390 will mark the arrival of the first fully-faired sportsbikes and will surely whip up a storm in the compact performance sports segment.

Essentially a Duke in racing avatar, the RC continues with top-notch cycle parts like the trellis frame, 300mm front and 230mm rear disc, and WP suspension, but also adds a full fairing, a new 10-litre fuel tank, projector headlamp setup, lower clip-on handlebars and revised foot-peg positions to further aid the rider in exploiting the most of the machine on track, as well as on the road of course. The rear seat is present, but at first glance, it appears to be a cowl. The RC 200 and RC 390, though identical in mechanicals and parts, will sport completely different graphics on the fairing, easily distinguishing one from the other.

The RC 200 will pack the 199.5cc four-valve single-cylinder motor with 25.5 PS at 10,000 RPM and 19.50 Nm at 8,000 RPM. It will weigh in at just 137.5 kg dry! The RC 200 is expected to have ABS as standard, so the price will be in the region of Rs 1.80 lakh (on road, Pune). We are yet to confirm if ABS is optional.

The RC 390 brings the larger 373.2cc four-valve single-cylinder motor with 43.5 PS at 9,000 RPM with 35 Nm coming in at 7,000 RPM. The 390 will weigh just 147 kg dry. With standard ABS, the RC 390 should retail for about Rs 2.30 lakh.

We will have to wait for the day of the launch in a few weeks time to find out exactly how much they will cost. However, rest assured that the bikes and their KTM Power Parts, including the Akrapovic exhaust system, are ready for launch and you won’t have to wait for too long to lay your hands on them!

TVS Scooty Zest 110

TVS Motors have launched the Scooty Zest 110 variomatic scooter. Aimed at young girls in the 18-25 age group, the Zest represents an expansion of the Scooty brand since it will co-exist with the entry-level Pep+ as well as the Streak.

The styling of the Scooty Zest is an evolution of the Pep+ and boasts of features like LED tail-lamps, rear brake locker, a front pocket, multiple hooks and the ‘econometer’ indicator.

It gets the 109.7cc CVTi engine also seen in the Wego and Jupiter and produces 8.02 PS at 7,500 RPM and 8.7 Nm of torque at 5,500 RPM. Tank capacity is five litres and TVS have claimed a fuel efficiency of 62 km/l. The seat height is 760mm, it has telescopic front forks and tubeless tyres.

The Scooty Zest 110 is available in five metallic colours and has been priced at Rs 42,300 (ex-showroom, Delhi).

New 2015 Indian Scout launch

August 7, 2014 by Team Bike India Leave a Comment

Indian Scout

The legend is back with a bang! It’s been over seventy years when the world was first mesmerized by the name “The Indian Scout”. Like its iconic forerunner, the 2015 Indian Scout is 100% Americana on two-wheels. Apart sporting the DNA and classic lines of the classic Scout, the bike makes a definitive step into the modern Indian era, as it packs the first-ever liquid-cooled engine on an Indian offering.

Looks like the folks over at Polaris certainly know to keep a secret well, on paper the new engine is downright awesome. The all new 1,133-cc liquid-cooled power plant delivers 100 PS and 98Nm of torque and is mated to a neat neat 6-speed manual transmission feeds power to the rear wheel by means of a belt drive. The exceptionally integrated new frame helps keep the Scout planted at all times on the road, due to a very low center of gravity and centralized mass distribution.

Officials at Polaris are so confident of the Scout’s handling prowess that they claim the new 2015 Scout to be the best handler in its class. However, no ABS mentions have been made as of yet and the bike is sadly a “solo machine” (no pillion seat). Still early days for the new Scout, but, we do speculate that Polaris will offer a host of optional upgrades very soon, like ABS, passenger seat, saddlebags, windscreen and custom-exhausts to name a few.

Details regarding pricing and availability have not yet been disclosed by the Polaris top brass. Stay tuned for more.
