Bigger, Better, Meaner: TVS Apache RTR 200 4V First Ride Review

January 27, 2016 by Aninda Sardar Leave a Comment

The new TVS Apache RTR 200 4V retains the agile DNA of the Apache RTR series but combines it with a more powerful and refined engine. Here are our first impressions, straight from the TVS test track in Hosur

Nimble to the point of being twitchy and a racy heart, these have been the hallmark of the TVS Apache RTR series that has been around (in mostly unchanged form) since 2007. For nearly a decade these popular 160 and 180 cc machines have entertained bikers around the country. However in the face of better competition and a general shift in consumer demand towards more powerful motorcycles, TVS Motor have now introduced the Apache RTR 200 4V. In the latest evolution of the Apache RTR saga, TVS have given their popular performance machine a bigger heart, a brand new look and a chassis that has been tweaked to make it even more capable than before. Read on to find out how the new TVS Apache RTR 200 4V feels when you get astride one.

Visually, the design language of the new Apache RTR 200 4V is far edgier than before. The petrol tank, which is actually a 12-litre unit, is a meaty affair and gives way to a set of well-designed split seats created from special foam and contoured to provide maximum comfort. The tail piece too is a well sculpted affair and looks contemporary; as is the belly pan. Dimensionally, the bike is shorter in overall length but has a longer wheelbase, is wider and has a higher ground clearance. Although the bike feels larger as you get astride, interestingly, it doesn’t feel much bulkier.

In recent years, however, the MT-10 has begun to show its age, especially in terms of technology and rider aids. It was always on the thirsty side, too, and, by modern standards, the brakes were lacking. It was time for an update, which is why for 2022 Yamaha introduced a new MT-10 earlier this year.
