Auction house Bonhams marked the last weekend with the most successful auction in its history when it auctioned over $ 2.6 million of motorbikes. The bike that made the most money ($ 480,000) was a 1939 supercharged BMW Kompressor. BMW also had another bike among the high earners – a 1954 model with a sidecar that earned $167,800. Other highlights included a Vincent Black Shadow that sold for $134,800.
Among the “affordable” sales were a Bimota BB1 supermono for £ 10,925 and the Roland Sands Design Super Single – a road racer based on a Yamaha YZ450F motocrosser – that went for just $ 3,450. Among the quirkiest designs was a 1980 Kawasaki KZ1000 Turbo Vetter Mystery Ship, one of only 10 Mystery Ships ever made, of which just two were turbocharged. This one was practically new, with just two miles on the clock. It did grab a lot of eyeballs though and went for a cool $ 20,125.
