Pune’s premier educational institution is back with its highly popular college fest, featuring some of the most delectable machinery from around the globe

When a petrolhead thinks about supercars and fast bikes in India, he usually thinks of Bombay or Delhi being the best place to spot them. Well he doesn’t have to any more. Enter Sympulse, SCMS (UG)’s college fest, held in Pune, which hosts an event they call “Pit stop”, where the very best bikes and supercars are displayed.

Last year, Sympulse featured a Yamaha R1, a Hayabusa, a Honda CBR 1000R, a Kawasaki Ninja and many more, including a fleet of superbly maintained Royal Enfields. Pit stop promises to display a fleet of supercars that are set to awe its spectators with power fuelled madness. With cars like the Ferrari F 430, the sublime Aston martin DB 9, and the Rolls Royce Phantom set to make appearances, the event boasts of cars ranging from the Jaguar XJL, to the Hummer H3, to the Bentley VI to amaze onlookers. Other cars to look out for during Pit stop, is the gorgeous Aston Martin Rapide, the Porsche Boxster, the Mercedes E63 AMG a Chevy impala and even a London Taxi!

Royal Enfield to ‘race’ your hearts

January 25, 2012 by Bike India Team Leave a Comment

One of the most promising bikes at the Auto Expo 2012 was the Royal Enfield Cafe Racer concept.

And now it seems that the motorcycle maker is burning the mid-night oil to make it a reality. Yes, we know the Cafe Racer concept was also showcased during the 2010 Auto Expo and it should have been posing teasingly at Royal Enfield showroom across India. But now it’s closer to reality.

Upon closer look at the concept displayed at the recent Expo, we were in awe of the fine craftsmanship that has gone on the bike. From the sumptuously sculpted tank to the single humped leather seat, the designers have captured the true Cafe Racer spirit perfectly. The low clip-on handle bar and rear-set foot pegs will give a great sporty riding position. The steeply raked front folk angle, Ohlins gas shock-absorbers in the rear and specially designed twin spar frame are sure to make it a nimble ride. Twin-pod instrument cluster, round headlights, retro taillamps and a cone-shaped exhaust work together to offer gorgeous classic looks. Powering this Cafe Race would be a 500-cc twin-spark (UCE) engine.

Fabulous classic looks and modern engineering is a killer combination. Now, all we have to say now is, “Please god, make it happen soon!”

January 13, 2012 by Bike India Team Leave a Comment

Lorenzo at Buddh International Circuit IndiaFirst it was brand ambassador, John Abraham at the launch of the Ray scooter at the Auto Expo 2012 and now Yamaha is back in the news again by bringing the 2010 World MotoGP Champion Jorge Lorenzo for the first time in India.

Lorenzo was welcomed with an ecstatic response from Indian biking and motorsports lovers as he rode Yamaha’s flagship bike YZF-R15 v2.0 on the Buddh International Circuit (BIC).

Speaking about his maiden visit to India, Jorge Lorenzo said, “I am simply delighted to visit India and want to thank India Yamaha Motor for organizing this visit and giving me the opportunity to meet my fans here. Seeing the number of biking and motorsports enthusiasts here, I can say that the adrenaline is surely pumping high for motorcycle racing in India. The only advice that I would like to give to all biking enthusiasts is that they should take care of safety aspects while riding; if safety is taken care of then biking is indeed a cherish able experience.”

The 24-year old motorcycle racer joined the MotoGP Yamaha Factory Racing Team in 2008 as double 250cc World Champion, having won the title for the previous two years. The 2010 season saw Lorenzo dominate the season and take the World Championship title.

As part of his visit to the BIC, Lorenzo also met the three lucky winners of the E-contest that was being run by India Yamaha Motor for its customers and biking enthusiasts.

Speaking to the media Mr. Hiroyuki Suzuki, CEO & Managing Director, India Yamaha Motor Pvt. Ltd., said, “Motorsports has gained much popularity especially after the F1 racing hosted in India recently. We’d certainly like to see India hosting MotoGP as well in the near future.” So, when do we see a MotoGP round at our very own racing circuit? Sooner than you can expect.

BMW’s Concept E

September 20, 2011 by Bike India Team Leave a Comment

Concept electric scooter charges up Frankfurt Motor Show 2011

Toeing the green line, BMW unveiled their long-awaited Motorrad Concept E at the recently concluded Frankfurt Motor Show. This concept electric scooter might be an addition to the long list that the e-scooter market already has, but it emanates a certain charisma that distinguishes it from the usual crop.

From its futuristic design to its state-of-the-art features, the Concept E is a clear representation of where the company imagines the alternative commuters might be heading for. The paintjob is a combination of black, green and white hues and the battery is stored away under its green side panel. There is a fan under the pillion seat (much like the under-seat exhaust in a conventional bike), which ventilates the battery area.

As for technology, the Concept E comes with touch-buttons on the handlebar with a display screen in the middle. Also, instead of the customary rear-view mirrors, this green machine comes with two video cameras, hidden under the tail-lamp.

Just as BMW described in their presentation, we believe this concept will turn out to be a very practical and fun-to-ride commuter, while also contributing its part to a cleaner future
