Lamborghini and BMC launch high-end racing bicycle

December 26, 2012 by Bike India Team Leave a Comment

The world of high-end racing bicycles welcomed a new member recently with the launch of the exclusive BMC impec Automobili Lamborghini Edition.

BMC’s flagship road bicycle has been spruced up with many high end bells-and-whistles. Riders will enjoy the comfort of a suede saddle as well as handlebars airbrushed in the Aventador LP-700-4’s Argos Orange shade. Other features include the Di2 electronic dérailleur system from Shimano, unbranded carbon fiber rims, and the frame plastered with the Lamborghini logo.

The bicycle will be priced at INR 14.4 lakhs in Europe, which is around INR 5.6 lakhs more than the standard BMC Impec bicycle. BMC is producing only 30 bicycles at its Swiss factory, with bookings to be made at one of the 120 Lamborghini dealers across the world.

DSK Hyosung & Hy Ryders conduct inaugural biker meet

December 26, 2012 by Bike India Team Leave a Comment

DSK Hyosung has established a biker club for their customers named Hy Ryders.

The first official event of this club was held for Hyosung customers in Pune and Mumbai on a Sunday morning in December. About thirty bikers from each city assembled at the Hyosung dealership in their vicinity and rode down together to Durshet village near Khopoli, located on the Pune-Mumbai route.

The convoy consisted of Hyosung sportbikes like the GT650R, GT250R, GT250N and the ST7 cruiser. The two groups started from their respective cities at 7:30 am and met at a resort in Durshet where DSK Hyosung had organised group activities for the participants. The riders from Pune competed against their counterparts from Mumbai in artificial rock climbing and the best six contestants then locked horns in another competition.

DSK Hyosung has ambitious plans under the Hy Ryders banner and will soon conduct single and multiple day events for their customers in other parts of the country. The company is also rapidly expanding their dealership network in India and plan to add 10 more dealerships to the existing 20 by March next year. Along with the that, there are a few new launches on the cards. Check out the January issue of Bike India for the full story.

National Women’s Championship 2013, UK

December 24, 2012 by Bike India Team Leave a Comment

The likes of Danica Patrick in the Indy 500s showcases the fact that women are carving out a name for themselves in the world of motorsports.

Even two-wheel competitions have their own set of super heroins like Simona Zacardi, and the latest two-wheel damsel Ana Carrasco, but the fairer sex has always been a small part of the generally male-dominated world of motorcycle racing for quite some time. Thus, the decision to establish a formal national championship exclusively for women was but obvious to cater to the talent in women racers. With this spirit, Thundersport, UK, have announced the first ever ‘National Women’s Championships’ in Britan for 2013.

Speaking to the media, Thundersport boss, Dave Stewart has said, “There are more females racing bike in this country than you might actually think and they all pit their wits on equal terms against their male counterparts in championships across the UK, albeit their numbers are somewhat scattered. Don’t think for a moment these girls are in any way uncompetitive, their effort, grit and determination is so great, they race these intercontinental ballistic missiles faster than most men could even dream of.”

The National Women’s Champoinships will be sponsored by Buff, and will allow competitors to gain points in whichever championship they choose to race in at Thundersport GB including Aprilia Superteens, Aprilia RRV450GP, Supertwins, Thundersport 500, Formula & Superstock 600’s an even the GP1class. However, the question is, is there a need to create a separate championship or can women compete with their male counterparts in the same races, as they do in so many other sporting events?
