Benelli to launch in India through DSK

October 12, 2014 by Jim Gorde Leave a Comment

Benelli BN302 web

DSK, the company which brought Hyosung to India, is now set to bring in motorcycles from the Italian marquee Benelli.

If all goes to plan, India could see the arrival of Benelli motorcycles in the next few months, with DSK readying for the launch of the Italian thoroughbreds here. Benelli have always stood apart from the rest with some unique designs, and we expect the portfolio to include everything from the 300cc street bike to the larger 1,130cc offerings.

Benelli BN302 2 web

The BN302 is of particular interest as the 300cc twin motor makes 37 PS and 27 Nm, putting it right in the middle of the battle between the 250s and the larger-engined variety like the KTM 390s. The single-cylinder KTM 390 Duke and RC390 produce 43.5 PS and 35 Nm, way above higher priced competition, the likes of the 39 PS Kawasaki Ninja 300, the 28 PS Hyosung GT250R, the 26 PS Honda CBR 250R and the 24 PS Suzuki Inazuma, all of which are priced around or over the Rs 2 lakh mark, with the Ninja costing nearly twice as much. The Benelli BN302 will be competitively priced to make the battle even more interesting.

Benelli BN 600 R webThe others Benellis which could soon be prowling the streets are the BN600R, the TNT 1130 R and the TRE 1130 K. The BN600R uses a 600cc, DOHC, inline four making 82 PS and 52 Nm. Although a 600-four, it won’t worry the Triumph Daytona 675 as much as it will aim at the incoming Honda CB650F street-naked and trouble the Hyosung GT650N.

Benelli TNT 1130 R webThe TNT and TRE use an 1,131cc triple with 123.5 PS and 112 Nm, and yes, they will squarely compete with the Triumph Roadsters – the Street Triple and the Speed Triple, while even taking a shot at the Suzuki Bandit 1250S. Street-cred and touring prowess in aggressively designed packages, is what these are. A lot of action will go down soon in the segments which India has been waiting for for quite some time.
