Honda True Adventure Camp – Prepping for Adventure

February 16, 2025 by Joshua Varghese Leave a Comment

Think of the True Adventure Camp as a means of getting familiar with your Honda ADV.

Waking up early in the morning is worth it when there are motorcycles involved. On that day, we were part of Honda BigWing’s True Adventure Camp which meant we had access to the NX500 and XL750 Transalp ADVs. One could say that was the case for anyone who had bought these motorcycles but the True Adventure Camp could be a unique experience for those owners too.

Participants get to experience the off-road capabilities of their Honda ADVs on a closed course under the watchful eye of experienced trainers. Before graduating to the trails offered by 19 Degree North in Lonavala, we underwent a refresher course in hard braking on the trails and the correct technique to control one’s speed while going down an incline with a loose surface. These drills are a good way to start the day because the levels of traction vary throughout a trail and shaving off speed here is not as easy as braking on the road. When faced with an animal darting across the trail or a sudden change in terrain, the ability to slow the motorcycle down in time could save one from a trip to the hospital. Furthermore, possessing the skill to control the speed of a heavy ADV while going downhill is a must if one intends to use such motorcycles to their full potential.

With that done, we set off to explore the trails. The route for the NX500 was easier and more flowing while the one for the Transalp was more technical. Having reviewed both these motorcycles in the past, we were familiar with their off-road abilities but, like most ADV owners, when actually riding trails, we don’t have the luxury of being able to consult a trainer about doubts in technique or the peace of mind that comes with the foreknowledge that there is medical staff on standby should something untoward occur. At a camp like this, one has a safe space to push one’s limits a bit and learn new things, which is exactly what we did. The trainers were able to watch us in action and offered small tips and suggestions that went a long way in making us more comfortable on the motorcycle, which eventually translated into better pace and greater fun.

The Honda BigWing True Adventure Camp is exclusive to Honda BigWing ADV customers. If you own a big Honda ADV, then you will receive a call from the dealership when such a camp is going to take place near your location. Otherwise, one can always follow BigWing India’s social media channels for timely updates and register as required.

Customers of the CB range need not feel left out because they can register as well. There will be a dedicated section for them featuring prizes, games, and even test-rides on the big bikes on the road.

The Honda BigWing True Adventure Camp is a superb engagement activity for Honda ADV riders which introduces them to the capabilities of their motorcycles in a safe environment; a must for those who are new to big ADV ownership.
