One of the biggest two-wheeler manufacturers in India – Honda 2Wheelers, have planned to expand their production capacity in order to meet the growing demands.

The company has planned to expand their third two-wheeler production plant, which is located in Narsapura, in Karnataka. The plant started operations in June 2013, with an annual production capacity of 18 lakh units. Honda plans to invest Rs 580 crore and build a new production line within the existing facility, which will add around 6,00,000 units. This expansion manoeuvre will increase the factory’s total annual production to 24 lakh motorcycles per annum.

Honda 2Wheelers are also in the process of starting their 4th manufacturing plant, which will then take the total production capacity to 64 lakh units per annum, by the end of 2016.

Commenting on the occasion, Mr. Keita Muramatsu, President & CEO – Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India said “Honda is strengthening its ‘Make in India’ resolve through steady and strategic investments with a long term objective of creating 39% additional capacity within 3.5 years. We are planning to increase the number of associates in the plant by approximately 1,900. This investment will provide new opportunities for expansion of brand Honda in the largest two-wheeler market of the world.”
