Of the many reasons to look forward to the upcoming season of World Superbike, a very important one is the return of MV Agusta in the FIM Supersport World Championship, with full factory support.

The Italian bike maker has confirmed the news of getting back to the racing world, with ParkinGO team. Both partners have signed a three-years contract. The company will race in the 600-cc Supersport class with their three-cylinder F3 675, which will be developed by 2011 series champion ParkinGO who also saw victory with the campaign they did for Chaz Davies in WBSK in the last season and an overall ninth for the team.

MV Agusta has a glorious history in racing with as many as 37 championship titles to their name, but have been away from the racing scenario for quite some time. The number to be raced by the duo is still under speculations, with MV Agusta rider Luca Scassa being the only one racer whose name has been confirmed at the moment. Davies, on the other hand, would be racing with BMW in the 2013 season. The contract between MV Agusta and ParkinGO was made on the same day, which would have been MV Agusta’s founder late Claudio Castiglioni’s 65th birthday. There are reports which suggest that the company may even return to WSBK by 2014. Alongside, MV Agusta also sees competition from Suzuki who will also make a comeback into racing in the upcoming season, with Suriano Racing, and Yamaha who wish to increase their presence in the championship under the name ‘Yakhnich Motorsport’.

So, they stage is all set for a head-to-head between two of the most evergreen racers in the history of the sport. Valentino Rossi and Max Biaggi will race one another at the Sic Supermoto Day, an event arranged in the memory of the late Marco Simoncelli. Top riders from Supermoto & roadracing disciplines will feature in exhibition races with the proceeds going to the Marco Simoncelli foundation.

The Sic Supermoto Day takes place on the 10th of December at the Sagittario International Circuit in Latina, Italy and will be a largely an Italian affair. The format of the competition is quite unusual, a team consisting of a Supermoto rider and a roadracing specialist will take alternate stints in an endurance race lasting 58 laps!

Racers like Rossi, Biaggi, Dovizioso, Fabrizio, Pasini, Iannone and Scassa will team up with top Supermoto riders like Lazzarini, Beltrami Ravaglia, Gozzini and Verderosa. With the Rossi and Biaggi duel sure to lit up old memories, spectators surely are in for a treat at this event.

Spanish teenager Ana Carrasco has been confirmed as the first female competitor to enter the Moto3 World Championship. The 15-year-old prodigy will compete for Madrid-based JHK Laglisse team along with fellow rider Mavreick Vinales on a KTM.

Ana, who turns 16^th come March, will surely face stiff competition from the other riders. By the way, sixteen also happens to be the minimum mandatory age limit for entry into the championship. Carrasco who tested her machine at Almeria this week, along with Vinales, will surely be showcasing her talent on the 125cc but the bigger challenge for the teenager though is to finish with points and hopefully vie for the world championship.

Anna stated,“I am very happy about this opportunity my sponsors are giving me, to debut in the world championship is the dream of every rider. I was not expecting it and I am very enthusiastic about it. I can’t wait to get into pre-season testing and do my first race.”

Just to throw some some light on previous female racers, Taru Rinne of Finland was the first woman to score points in any GP class during the 1988 125cc season while Japan’s Tomoko Igata was the most successful, achieving the highest placing for a female rider in the history of the championship with seventh in the Czech Republic during the 1995 season.
