The Aprilia Storm that was spotted at dealerships earlier this month has finally been launched in India.

Aprilia is known worldwide for its powerful superbikes. In India, they are popular for their snazzy and sporty scooters. Aprilia’s latest offering in India is a new scooter called the Aprilia Storm or ‘The Fun Starter’ as they like to call it. The Aprilia Storm is priced at Rs 65,000 (ex-showroom). Aprilia have released this scooter to widen their reach and they aim to do so with a more accessible price tag (by Aprilia India standards).

The Storm gets a 124.49-cc engine that makes 9.52 PS at 7,250 rpm and a peak torque of 9.9 Nm at 6,250 rpm. The fuel tank of the Storm will have a capacity of 6.5 litres. It has been introduced in two new colours; matte red and matte yellow, they come with a set of new, bold and aggressive graphics.

The Aprilia Storm gets a telescopic front fork and a monoshock at the rear. The scooter is equipped with drum brakes at either end supplemented with CBS (Combined Braking System); as compared to the disc brake offered on the SR 125. The Storm has 12-inch alloy wheels that are shod with knobby tyres.

Diego Graffi, Managing Director and CEO, Piaggio India said, “We are delighted to launch the long-awaited Aprilia Storm in India. Known for its undisputed racing heritage, Aprilia uses cutting-edge technology to design and create premium differentiated products for the youth of the country that reflect the true characters of brand Aprilia. Storm has a dynamic exterior theme with vibrant colours, specially designed wide terrain tyres, 125-cc engine and customisation through accessories that makes it unique.”

The new Aprilia Storm 125 will go up against the TVS Ntorq 125, Suzuki Burgman 125 and the Honda Grazia. With the improved pricing, we hope to see a wider audience moving towards Aprilia.

In recent years, however, the MT-10 has begun to show its age, especially in terms of technology and rider aids. It was always on the thirsty side, too, and, by modern standards, the brakes were lacking. It was time for an update, which is why for 2022 Yamaha introduced a new MT-10 earlier this year.
