Anyway, the most interesting bit about the new Street Twin is it’s parallel-twin motor which, like the frame, was designed from the ground up. The exterior of the engine may resemble the early engine’s design however, internals are all new. A new crank, cylinders and head coupled with a new fuel-injection system that features ride-by-wire throttle and liquid cooling has made this eight-valve motor torquier. A total increase of 18 percent means the torque output now stands at 80 Nm which is produced at 3,200 rpm and it is distributed across the rev-range making it easier to ride especially in the lower rev-range. Not only that, these changes along with a 270° firing order make the engine smoother and linear. Fuel efficiency has improved by a massive 36 percent as compared to the earlier generation Bonnie.
Adding a bit of modern –day tech is the inclusion of traction control, which will be a boon on Indian roads. Along with traction control the Street Twin will also feature ABS and slipper clutch. Feature wise the standard bike will be loaded with stuff like LED tail lights, USB socket for changing phones, engine immobiliser and a stylish instrument console that mixes digital and analogue gauges.
Internationally, Triumph will reveal the pricing and specification of the Street Twin in December and the bikes will go on sale from January 2016. For India, Triumph Motorcycles India plans to unveil the bike at the Auto Expo followed by a more casual unveil at the India Bike Week. In an ideal situation Triumph should price the bike at least Rs,40,000 – 50,000 lower than the current bike however, with the addition of new gadgetry, we expect the price to go up by that much. We expect to ride the bike somewhere in January however, launch date for India is expected to be after IBW.
