Yamaha have introduced refreshed versions of three bikes in their scooter line-up – the Ray, Ray Z, and the Alpha. The Ray is priced at Rs 47,805, while the Ray Z, which is available in a new Cyan Splash color scheme, is now priced at Rs 48,936. The Alpha is priced Rs 49,936 (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi). The trio of scooters will now feature engines infused with Yamaha’s ‘Blue Core’ technology, which claim a fuel efficiency figure of 66 km/l. The changes to the 113 cc engine powering all three scooters include a Nickel spark plug, reworked exhaust and revised throttle settings.
Commenting on the occasion, Roy Kurian, Vice President, Yamaha Motor India said, “We are eying around 10 percent share in the fast growing scooter market in India this year riding on our three scooter offerings. Currently, we have over 5 per cent market share in the scooter segment, which is pegged at around 3 lakh units per month. The success of the Ray, Ray Z, and Alpha scooters are essential to Yamaha to realize its targets in the coming years. We are looking to place ourselves as a mass-market leader in India and scooters is certainly our main focus to be able to achieve this. Yamaha sees scooters contributing over 50 per cent of its sales in the future. Currently, scooters constitute about 40 per cent of our sales.”
