What could a scooter and an arts festival have in common? As it turns out, plenty – especially if the scooter is the retro-look iconic Vespa and the festival is the equally iconic Kala Ghoda Arts Festival of Mumbai! Not many people know this, but the word ‘Vespa’ in Latin means ‘wasp’. To reveal and explain the mystery behind the name, the Vespa team has created an art installation that is a ‘mutant’ combination of the cult classic Vespa and a wasp, as an artistic explanation of a 60-year old brand that has travelled 4,000 miles from its country of origin.
This unique installation will be on display at the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival 2013 scheduled from 2nd-10th February 2013. The Festival itself has been running for 15 years now and offers a vibrant mix of music, films, dance, literature, theatre, visual arts, workshops for adults and children, street stalls, and heritage walks. It is organised in one of the most beautiful and historic precincts of Mumbai, the Kala Ghoda Art District, and is home to 350 events over nine days. So whether you’re an art lover or an ardent Vespa lover, head straight for the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival 2013 – you won’t regret it!
