In an unprecedented move, TVS Racing have signed on their first ever woman rider for the Indian National Rally Championship
Story: Team Bike India
In a fantastic endorsement of girl power, TVS Racing – one of the few two-wheeler manufacturers in India to have continuously supported motorsport, have signed on their first ever woman rider. This year 24-year-old Shreya Sunder Iyer will don the TVS Racing colours at the Indian National Rally Championship alongside the usual crop of male riders. According to TVS, this makes Shreya the first ever Indian rider to be signed on for an Indian factory team.
Shreya started riding at the age of 17 and has dreamt of a career in motorsport since. She also became the first Indian woman rider to successfully complete a ride across the sand dunes in Dubai. Shreya has also ridden across India extensively, including through the remote Suru valley in the Himalayas. “I am proud to be a part of the TVS Racing Team,” said a beaming Shreya. “This association will help me work with the best in class machines, racers and technology. I also hope to encourage young bikers especially women to follow their passion for racing and live their dreams,” she added.
Meanwhile, Arvind Pangaonkar, Head of TVS Racing, said, “We are happy to sign Shreya for the TVS Racing Team and believe that her participation will encourage women to consider racing as a career.”
