The year 2016 will see reigning MotoGP World Champion Jorge Lorenzo race in the signature Yamaha blue for the last time, following team Movistar Yamaha’s announcement that he is moving on to “new racing challenges.” Close on the heels of Yamaha’s announcement, team Ducati Desmosedici GP announced that MotoGP’s controversial superstar will be spearheading the Italian team’s efforts in MotoGP for the 2017 and 2018 seasons.

Lorenzo joined the Yamaha factory team in 2008 and since then has won three incredible World Championships, 41 race wins and 99 podiums for the team out of the 141 races that he has taken part in. Given Lorenzo’s contribution to the Yamaha MotoGP effort, the team has reiterated its support to the Spaniard’s attempt at a fourth World Title this year. Having already confirmed former World Champ Valentino Rossi for the seasons 2017-18, the team is yet to announce the name of the second rider.

In recent years, however, the MT-10 has begun to show its age, especially in terms of technology and rider aids. It was always on the thirsty side, too, and, by modern standards, the brakes were lacking. It was time for an update, which is why for 2022 Yamaha introduced a new MT-10 earlier this year.
