TVS to launch Phoenix exec-commuter in October

August 21, 2012 by Bike India Team Leave a Comment

After being pushed down to the fourth position in the Indian two-wheeler market, TVS Motor are not willing to take things lying down.

The Hosur-based company is readying a slew of new two-wheeler models, including the Phoenix executive-commuter which was spied being tested near the company’s factory in Tamil Nadu. The bike strongly resembles the 125-cc concept, Radeon, which was shown during the 2012 Auto Expo. Slated for an October launch, it carries similar design cues as seen on the TVS Star City, with an all-black engine, exhaust and six-spoke alloy wheels. Going by the spy pictures, the new executive-commuter has nothing in common with the TVS Flame, except the 124.8-cc, single-spark, air-cooled motor capable of producing about 10.5 PS and 10 Nm. The good looking petal disc brakes in front hint at it being positioned towards the premium side of the 125-cc segment at an estimated price of Rs 50,000.

YouTube user, Anil R Nair, has uploaded a sneak preview of what seems to be the TV promos for the new Phoenix. Being surreptitiously shot with what seems to be a cellphone camera, the video quality is a bit blurry and shaky, but it gives us a fair idea of how the new bike will be squared against the competition. Expecially noteworthy is the snazzy instrument console in orange with a huge speedo, service indicator, fuel gauge and tripmeter among other paraphernalia. We can’t wait to see what other surprises this TVS have in store for us.

New Royal Enfield Thunderbird in Shahrukh Khan’s next film

August 17, 2012 by Bike India Team 4 Comments

Recently, several Bollywood actors have been roped in by motorcycles manufacturers, like Aamir Khan by Mahindra 2-wheelers, Salman Khan promotes Suzuki Hayate, while Akshay Kumar has become the ambassador for Honda Motorcycle & Scooter Ltd.

But it was quite a shocker to spot Shahrukh Khan astride the much anticipated 2012 Bullet Thunderbird 500cc during the shoot of Yash Raj film’s forthcoming romantic flick, with leggy actress Anushka Sharma as pillion. So is SRK joining the bandwagon to promote a two-wheeler manufacturer or is it another one-off publicity gimmick by the company to create some hype around the ‘to-be-launched-soon’ bike?

Whatever it might be, the trick seems to be working. Though the new Thunderbird was revealed by Royal Enfield during the 2012 Auto Expo in New Delhi, several spy pictures of the bike have been doing the rounds online recently. This indicates that the launch is due soon. There’s enough buzz around the new Thunderbird already, so can we please have the bike now?

Biggest Independence Day Ride!

August 17, 2012 by Bike India Team Leave a Comment

Royal Enfield August 15 2012The 15th of August is and always has been an important day for us Indians.

This year Mumbai witnessed a record-breaking spectacle when, for the first time, 1,300 Royal Enfield riders gathered to ride together in celebration of the Independence Day.

Royal Enfield owners get together on such occasions in a spirit of brotherhood and ride together either for a cause or to spread the message of brotherhood and safety. If you happened to live in the vicinity of Bandra, at about 8.00 am you would have awakened to the sound of hundreds of bikes and thousands of people all gearing up for the start of the rally.

The rally started from the Royal Enfield showroom at Bandra and made its way to the Gateway of India and back via Marine Drive and Worli Sea Face. The theme for this year’s ride was: ‘A royal salute to the Indian armed forces’.

Compared to previous local rides, this year’s ride was well organised and rider and pillion safety were of utmost importance.

Hero give CBZ Xtreme cosmetic upgrades

August 16, 2012 by Bike India Team 1 Comment

The CBZ Xtreme has been one of the most successful 150-cc bikes from the Hero MotoCorp stable.

With rising competition and new products in the segment, survival of the fittest has become the norm. In keeping with the changing times Hero have upgraded this bike, which now sports a digital-analogue combo instrument console, split seats, new prism LED tail-lights and new five-spoke alloy wheels along with front and rear disc brakes. The buzz is that Hero might knock off the ‘CBZ’ prefix, legacy of their former partners, Honda, and might just call it the Hero Xtreme.
