The Indian motorcycle company Hero MotoCorp made headlines at EICMA, by announcing the company’s global expansion plans, and also by showcasing two new products – the Hastur 620, which was showcased at the Auto Expo as a concept bike, and, as we mentioned back in October, they will also launch the HX250R.
The first phase of its entry in Europe, will see products being launched in Italy, Spain and France and the second phase will include UK and Germany. The firm also announced an investment of Rs 4917 crore in building capacity across the globe in the next few years. Hero will first launch the the 125cc hybrid scooter called “Leap” in these markets, and subsequently bring in more models including scooters and motorcycles.
The Hastur 620 is an aggressive looking parallel twin street-fighter, which claims to produce 80 PS and the HX250R is a fully faired sports bike designed in partnership with Erik Buell Racing, with a single-cylinder engine producing 31 PS.
Commenting on this major feat, Hero CEO, Pawan Munjal said, “Today, one out of every 10 bikes sold globally is a Hero bike and every second two-wheeler sold in India is from Hero. This places us in a unique position to expand our business into new markets across continents. We are now looking at stepping into the European market by the end of 2015.”
