August 17, 2012 by Bike India Team Leave a Comment

MTV and India Yamaha Motor Pvt. Ltd is all set to bring out a new program called Yamaha MTV Road to Love.

The concept of this program is to bring together lovers who are separated due to their long distance relationship with the help of the Yamaha Fazer. Like Sir Walter Scott’s Lochinvar, the two lovers will unite but the only difference over here will be the Yamaha Fazer in place of a steed.

The lovers in question will have to surmount certain difficulties before being victorious. The program covers over 12 episodes and will feature 11 love stories and one grand finale. The program is passed on 11 couples and their stories of separation over a distance of between 200 to 255 kms in India. Social networking sites like Facebook and Skype will be the only means of communication between these lovers who cannot meet or be together on a regular basis either due to financial constraints or job opportunities.

The lovers will be using the Fazer to conquer the distance between them proving that nothing can come between love be it weather, distance or circumstances. Registration is be open for those wanting to participate in these 11 stories. Yamaha are trying to utilize the television medium for their brand strengthening and retaining market share.

Royal Enfield August 15 2012The 15th of August is and always has been an important day for us Indians.

Royal Enfield owners get together on such occasions in a spirit of brotherhood and ride together either for a cause or to spread the message of brotherhood and safety. If you happened to live in the vicinity of Bandra, at about 8.00 am you would have awakened to the sound of hundreds of bikes and thousands of people all gearing up for the start of the rally.

The rally started from the Royal Enfield showroom at Bandra and made its way to the Gateway of India and back via Marine Drive and Worli Sea Face. The theme for this year’s ride was: ‘A royal salute to the Indian armed forces’.

Compared to previous local rides, this year’s ride was well organised and rider and pillion safety were of utmost importance.

The CBZ Xtreme has been one of the most successful 150-cc bikes from the Hero MotoCorp stable.

With rising competition and new products in the segment, survival of the fittest has become the norm. In keeping with the changing times Hero have upgraded this bike, which now sports a digital-analogue combo instrument console, split seats, new prism LED tail-lights and new five-spoke alloy wheels along with front and rear disc brakes. The buzz is that Hero might knock off the ‘CBZ’ prefix, legacy of their former partners, Honda, and might just call it the Hero Xtreme.

Carlin Dunne wins Pikes Peak International Hill Climb aboard Ducati Multistrada 1200 S

August 14, 2012 by Bike India Team Leave a Comment

Carlin Dunne dominated the 2012 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, setting the new course record for motorcycles today from pole position for the second year in a row on a Ducati Multistrada 1200 S.

This win marks Ducati’s third-straight victory at the historic “Race to the Clouds”. Both Dunne and Spider Grips Ducati teammate and six-time winner Greg Tracy finished the race under the 10-minute barrier, which is a first for any motorcycle in the race’s 90-year history. Dunne crossed the finish line at the 14,110-foot summit of Pikes Peak with the record-setting time of 9:52.819, beating his previous record of 11:11.32, while Tracy was less than six seconds behind, placing second with 9:58.262.

“Today was an emotional day,” said Dunne. “The year of work the Spider Grips Ducati team put into preparing for Pikes Peak got us across the finish line in under 10 minutes, an achievement we’re very proud of. When we heard that we won and broke the record for the second time, I was speechless. The one-two finish proves the Ducati Multistrada 1200 S is the ultimate bike to conquer Pikes Peak.”

Dunne reached speeds above 144mph (230kmh)  throughout the mountain’s straights, and traversed 156 turns, ranging from hairpin, blind, decreasing radius, and multi-apex turns, while consistently gaining elevation up the technical 12.42-mile (20km) course. The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, or “Race to the Clouds”, is situated in a range of the Rocky Mountains, 16km west of Colorado Springs and races from a start line altitude of 2,862 metres (9,389ft) to a finish line at 4,300 (14,100ft).

“Ducatisti around the world are celebrating the victory of Carlin Dunne and the Spider Grips Ducati Team – we are all very proud,” said Dominique Cheraki, General Manager of Ducati North America. “Three years ago we chose the Multistrada 1200 S to compete at Pikes Peak to showcase its on-and-off road capabilities, class-leading ergonomics, handling, and performance. When we were alerted that the entire course would be paved in 2012, there was no doubt that the Multistrada 1200 S was still the right choice and breaking the record today proves this.”
