Yamaha YZF-R6 in World Supersport: putting the icon in the iconic

After a long wait, a factory team in the FIM World Supersport Championship.

The FIM World Supersport has been incomplete for quite some time now. Yamaha have decided to change that by throwing the 2017 YZF-R6 into the 600-cc class brawl. This entry also marks the return of a factory team into this category.

The World Supersport championship does not allow heavy modification to the bikes. Therefore, the YZF-R6 that will be used to race will not be far away from a production YZF-R6 in terms of performance. However, the race bike will have an Akrapovič Evo full titanium exhaust, Öhlins cartridges, Brembo brakes, race fairings and Pirelli Diablo DOT rubber. For those interested, Yamaha have promised that these accessories will be available with the dealers.

Sadly, the R6 will remain unavailable for the Indian market until Yamaha decides to homologate and sell it here.
