Yamaha to make India global motorcycle hub

June 3, 2013 by Aninda Sardar Leave a Comment

Yamaha Motor India has announced ambitious plans to take their popular motorcycle models to a global market. The popular commuter motorcycles, notably the 150-cc FZ- and SZ-series will be the models in question. The company wants to make India the hub for developing and manufacturing commuter motorcycles with engines of capacities ranging from 100-200cc.

Yamaha has already taken a huge step with their investment in an R&D facility in Surajpur, their fifth overseas research center internationally after Italy, Taiwan, China and Thailand. Their plan to mass-produce these motorcycle will see exports pick up with even China set to receive the made-in-India models.

Hiroyuki Yanagi, President and CEO of Yamaha Motor Company stated, “India is a low-cost market , but we are not looking at just that. We want to develop sporty and stylish models from here and these would be for European markets and Asian markets.”
