Double world superbike champion James Toseland is looking to set a new world motorcycle land speed record.
The British racer is eyeing to achieve a mind boggling speed of least 400 mph (643 Kmph), a huge leap from the current FIM record which stands at 376.363 mph (605.69 Kmph), held by American rider ‘Rocky’ Robson.
Speaking to the media Toseland said, “I am hugely excited about this record attempt but I’m under no illusions as to how difficult it will be. I’ve been racing motorcycles for most of my life but this means learning a completely new technique in order to pilot the motorcycle streamliner. If successful, this will be a fantastic personal achievement but also a great accolade to bring back to the UK.”
The British superbiker is a former two-time WSBK champion and is backed by an all-Brit team for this record attempt. The team is led by former GP and TT sidecar racer Alex Macfazden who has previously held the British bike land speed record, and the first UK record over 200 mph (323 Kmph). This record attempt has been sheduled to take place at the ‘mecca’ of land speed records, the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, USA, in September 2014.
