A genuine example of the world’s first ever production motorcycle, the 1894 Hildebrand & Wolfmüller is going to be auctioned at the 2010 International Classic Motorcycle Show in Stafford, England on April 25, 2010. The bike to be auctioned is the 1895 model and is powered by a 1488cc twin cylinder motor which produces 2.5PS at 240rpm. The claimed top speed is said to be around 45km/h, a big achievement during its time.

It is the world’s first production motorcycle, however, no one knows the exact number of examples produced. Some claims suggest that 2000 bikes were manufactured but some say that only 800 pieces were built. Bonhams will be auctioning the bike and they expect it to fetch anywhere between Rs 30-45 lakh (UK). The particular bike for auction has been with the vendor’s family since the 1930s and hasn’t been started for almost 80 years.
