Bimota, the company that is well-renowned for manufacturing exotic motorcycles featuring powerful engines, recently showed the DB8 which is an affordable option for DB7 fanatics with a more powerful Ducati engine. This new DB bike is powered by the famous Ducati 1198 Testastretta Evoluzione V-twin motor that churns out 168PS, eight more compared to the DB7 and 131.5Nm of torque, 9.5Nm more than the DB7 which uses the 1098 motor. The design is almost similar to the DB7, however, the plastic and aluminum bits and parts have replaced the carbon and titanium pieces found on the DB7. These measures have helped Bimota bring down the overall cost of the bike. Not only that, many high end components that are standard on the DB7 are excused on the DB8.
The exhaust used on the DB8 is made from steel unlike the titanium unit found on the DB7. Low spec Marzocchi forks, an Extreme Tech monoshock suspension system and an aluminum subframe are the major parts fitted on the DB8 which have considerably lowered the bike’s cost as compared to the DB7. Another part that is absent on the DB7 is a rear seat which makes an appearance on the DB8. The surprise package is the price of the bike. It is expected to be priced at $33,127 or Rs 15.1 lakh in the USA which is Rs 2 lakh cheaper than the DB7.
Lowered cost, twin seats and a more powerful engine make the DB8 an attractive overall package, however the use of plastic, aluminum and steel, makes it a tad less exotic than the DB7.
